Idris Nasir, PhD student at the University of La Rioja and Fellow of the Month of #IberusTalent

We are proud to present our Fellow of the Month of #MSCA COFUND #IberusTalent, Idris Nasir!
Idris is a Nigerian PhD student at the University of La Rioja, and an MSCA Early-Stage Researcher of the #IberusTalent Programme. His PhD project aims at studying the molecular ecology of #staphylococci in nasal and tracheal cavities. The research outcomes will evidence the need for enhanced surveillance, accurate diagnostics, and rational chemotherapy in humans and animals. Idris has already published two articles, in Pathogens and in Antibiotics. Idris and his supervisors Carmen Torres and Carmen Lozano of the University of La Rioja (UR, Spain) have a wide network of collaborators: Myriam Zaragaza (UR), Ursula Hofle (Spanish Wildlife Research Institute IREC- Ciudad Real, Spain), Carmen Simón (University of Zaragoza, Spain) and Marc Stegger, Head of Bioinformatics and Microbial Genomics at Serum Statun Institute, Denmark, where Idris plans a research stay soon.
Prior to starting his PhD, Idris graduated in Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Maiduguri and he followed a Master of Science degree in Medical Microbiology and Parasitology at the University of Ilorin. Idris is very active in networking and building collaborations, he is a member of numerous international associations for scientists in the field of medicine, infectious diseases and clinical microbiology.
This is Idris’s insight as an MSCA IberusTalent fellow:
“I always crave for the best in my chosen research specialty. I believe this fellowship programme will be the best avenue for me to learn how to use contemporary genomics and metagenomics tools in understanding biomedical processes and translating laboratory-derived data into healthcare and wellbeing of humans and animals.”
